System Logs error originating from `/usr/local/pkg/RESTAPI/.resources/scripts/manage.php`

I noticed today that I have the following log entry in my system logs at every top of the hour

/usr/local/pkg/RESTAPI/.resources/scripts/manage.php: The command '/usr/local/sbin/pfSense-repo-setup' returned exit code '1', the output was '0080A167B4270000:error:0A000126:SSL routines:ssl3_read_n:unexpected eof while reading:/var/jenkins/workspace/pfSense-Plus-snapshots-24_11-main/sources/FreeBSD-src-plus-RELENG_24_11/crypto/openssl/ssl/record/rec_layer_s3.c:323: pfSense-repoc-static: failed to fetch the repo data failed to read the repo data. failed to update the repository settings!!!'

with occasionally a more compact message

/usr/local/pkg/RESTAPI/.resources/scripts/manage.php: The command '/usr/local/sbin/pfSense-repo-setup' returned exit code '1', the output was 'pfSense-repoc-static: failed to fetch the repo data failed to read the repo data. failed to update the repository settings!!!'

I have no occurrence of any pfSense-repoc-static errors in my logs other than those that originate from /usr/local/pkg/RESTAPI/.resources/scripts/manage.php

I'm not sure how to proceed with this and honestly not even sure this is an issue with the API per se so looking for some guidance.

Running pfSense-repo-setup from a SSH session reveals no issues so no longer sure if the culprit is something within the API php files or not

Hmm I'm seeing this periodically on some of my instances as well. manage.php doesn't call pfSense-repo-setup directly so it's likely occurring in a function manage.php is calling. Given that it is occurring on the hour, I'd assume it's occurring in /usr/local/pkg/RESTAPI/Caches/AvailablePackcageCachge.inc which calls pfSense's builtin get_pkg_info function. Looks like that function does call pfSense-repo-setup.

However, calling the hourly command /usr/local/pkg/RESTAPI/.resources/scripts/manage.php refreshcache AvailablePackageCache doesn't reproduce the issue for me nor does changing the cron job to occur every minute which makes me think there is an external factor at play. Maybe a timing conflict. I'll do some experimenting and see if I can nail it down.

I was able to get these logs to stop by running the AvailablePackageCache at an irregular interval like every hour on the 12th minute instead of right on the hour. I have not seen the error in the logs for a week since, while my other instances continue to see them periodically when run on the hour. I believe it is just a timing issue with some other scheduled repo related task in pfSense. I'll have a fix in v2.5.0 to make this the set schedule for this cache and we'll see if the errors return.
