Steps to reproduce the behavior

1. Enter some prompt.
2. "/copy" or right click to copy something.
3. nothing is copied to clipboard.

Expected behavior

Selected text or last assistant message should be copied into clipboard.

I noticed. This is an issue. The CLI is telling me that something has been copied to the clipboard but it is not working.

v1.0.55 does not fix /copy (writing to clipboard) on GNOME Wayland

The changelog states: "Clipboard paste works correctly on Wayland compositors that do not support wlr-data-control (e.g. GNOME/Mutter)" — but this only addresses reading from the clipboard. Writing to the clipboard via /copy still fails with the exact same error:

A required Wayland protocol (ext-data-control, or wlr-data-control version 1) is not
supported by the compositor

Environment: Ubuntu 24.04.4, GNOME 46 (Mutter 46), Copilot CLI v1.0.55, Wayland session

This issue was also reported in #3483 (closed as duplicate of this one), where I posted a detailed analysis. The core problem:

1. GNOME/Mutter will never implement wlr-data-control — it's a deliberate security decision (mutter#524). Mutter 47+ has ext-data-control behind an opt-in, but current Ubuntu LTS (24.04) ships Mutter 46.

2. Partial workaround - X11 session: At the login prompt, select "Ubuntu on Xorg" (or any Xorg session variant) instead of the default Wayland session. This allows /copy to work via the native X11 module, but it's also prone to breaking with a "Somebody else owns the clipboard now" message.

3. Secondary issue under VMware (X11 session): Even on X11, VMware Tools (vmtoolsd -n vmusr) does not detect clipboard ownership changes made by the native Rust X11 module, so content doesn't propagate to the host. The same content re-asserted via xsel --clipboard --input is detected. This suggests the native module may be missing standard TARGETS advertisement or has a timing issue with XSetSelectionOwner.
