It would be useful to have an option for a few different models. GPT-4.1, Grok-Code-Fast-1, Sonnet-4, Sonnet-4.5, etc

in the text box, '/models' and enter will yield the option to select the models available to the user based on their plan.

Personally I totally want the same request like yours. But I think GitHub team design this on purpose.

The reason for current design (which excludes all unlimited models in the paid plan) is that it may cause GitHub's LLM cost to surge to a very high level. The reason is simple: GitHub Copilot CLI can be scripted, programmatically executed, and integrated into automated workflows. If unlimited models like gpt-4.1 are supported in CLI, they will be worried our subscription fee won't cover their server cost. That's the main reason!

For me, I think a better way is to design a more reasonable plan like the "unlimited" models (gpt-4.1, etc.) with rate limit, so the total cost will be limited to a decent level. Hope the GitHub Copilot team would consider my suggestion.

@jumpnut187 : as @PatrickMatthiesen mentioned, the /model slash command should give you a model picker where you can choose from several models based on your subscription and policies. Please let me know if there is still a problem
