Question

Hi, I recently rooted my LG TV and installed HBC with no issues. I then installed piccap which installed fine however when I open the App it says on the bottom it is finishing root and then my TV reboots and does the same thing when I go to retry opening piccap. Is there an Alternate method or open source App to get piccap and hyperion to work on my TV? I also noticed hyper hdr and not sure if I can use that as a replacement. Any help is appreicated!

Oh! webOS 2.x, lm14a this will not work with the PicCap UI. You need to install hyperion-webos on your LG and configure the config.json yourself. See: https://github.com/webosbrew/hyperion-webos

Hi, I would first test without Quirks and without UI capture. I would not set an FPS limit (FPS = 0) and set the resolution to 192 x 108 pixels.

You have to create a "config.json" and copy it to /media/developer/apps/usr/palm/services/org.webosbrew.piccap.service/ on the device. It must look like this:

It is important to set "nogui" to true to be able to start PicCap without UI.

With the following commands in Terminal/SSH you can now start PicCap and check whether everything is OK:

cd /media/developer/apps/usr/palm/services/org.webosbrew.piccap.service

./hyperion-webos --verbose

These are the steps to see if PicCap starts and connects at all. Post the output from terminal.
End the process with Ctrl+C

I don't know if the old webOS 2.x supports "libdile_vt" but it's worth a try.

If necessary, retrieve debug logs for piccap:

First, run:

luna-send -n 1 -f luna://com.webos.service.config/setConfigs '{"configs": {"system.collectDevLogs": true}}'

followed by

PmLogCtl set 'capture' debug

followed by

tail -F /var/log/messages | grep capture

Thanks so much, This is a big help! I also noticed you can manually start the piccap service using a Luna command which I am unsure if it worked or not. Do I need to go into the hyperion ng app on my TV to check the status? Everytime I do it does not show any info. Also can I use the config you provided as is or do I still need to change settings such as the ip address to my tv ip instead of localhost? I am bad with syntax etx ;)

Hi,
the config.json can be used as it is, because “127.0.0.1” is already the internal address of your TV. When you log on to your device via Terminal/SSH, you are already on the internal host (127.0.0.1).
Simply copy the configuration to the correct location on the TV. Log in to your TV with Terminal/SSH and then execute:

cd /media/developer/apps/usr/palm/services/org.webosbrew.piccap.service

./hyperion-webos --verbose

to see what the output is. Either it works or it doesn't. Hyperion.NG or HyperHDR must be installed on your TV.
You should first install HyperHDR on your TV instead of Hyperion.NG.

Hi, I would first test without Quirks and without UI capture. I would not set an FPS limit (FPS = 0) and set the resolution to 192 x 108 pixels.

You have to create a "config.json" and copy it to /media/developer/apps/usr/palm/services/org.webosbrew.piccap.service/ on the device. It must look like this:

It is important to set "nogui" to true to be able to start PicCap without UI.

With the following commands in Terminal/SSH you can now start PicCap and check whether everything is OK:

cd /media/developer/apps/usr/palm/services/org.webosbrew.piccap.service

./hyperion-webos --verbose

These are the steps to see if PicCap starts and connects at all. Post the output from terminal. End the process with Ctrl+C

I don't know if the old webOS 2.x supports "libdile_vt" but it's worth a try.

If necessary, retrieve debug logs for piccap:

First, run:

luna-send -n 1 -f luna://com.webos.service.config/setConfigs '{"configs": {"system.collectDevLogs": true}}'

followed by

PmLogCtl set 'capture' debug

followed by

tail -F /var/log/messages | grep capture

Either Hyperion.NG or HyperHDR can be installed and the daemon started. You must then add at least one LED controller via the IP address of your TV:8090 and create and save a layout. (To test everything, you need to create at least one fictitious “File” controller with a fictitious layout.)

It is also very important that the root status has been confirmed via the homebrew channel app settings menu and that failsafe mode is not activated after the restart. Otherwise, neither PicCap nor Hyperion/HyperHDR can be started and the services cannot be elevated.

I also noticed in the terminal output that important libraries required by the backends are not present in your webOS and that there is no connection to Hyperion or HyperHDR.
Therefore I ask you to check again if at least Hyperion or HyperHDR is accessible via the browser and to check the output again to see if at least the libdile_vt is started successfully.
