Characters not dancing on every beat

My characters are only dancing on every other beat. I tested with BF and he does dance on every beat. I manually shortened the characters' animations to be 3-7 frames long and they still don't dance on beat 2 or 4. Please help

Is your idle animation set to be looped? If it's set to be looped, then the animation replaying will only be done once the animation finishes, not per-beat.

In that case, are there any character scripts being used? How many frames does the idle animation use in the spritesheet or spritemap?

The character i am using doesn't have any script associated to or referencing it. The idle animation uses 7 frames which play at 24 fps, and the bpm of the song is 100BPM. 0.6 seconds per beat, and 0.29 seconds per idle; it should totally fit but it just decides not to.

Also, I was mistaken; Boyfriend (default boyfriend) is also doing the same thing and only dancing on beats 1 and 3 of every measure

Hm, taking a look at this in-engine, characters by default should generally play the idle animation every second beat. So, in the chart editor, beats 0, 2, 4, and so on (indicated by longer lines) will play the animation, with 0 being the very start of the song.

Since you say that Boyfriend is also affected, who generally doesn't have any special beat-related changes, I think it might be some kind of performance issue on your end. Codename can occasionally skip certain things like step hits if things like the speed are affected; I've seen this happen often with FlxG.timeScale. I think something similar could theoretically happen with low performance, though I've never encountered this myself. You're able to tweak your performance options in the options menu under each category.

It could also be an addon that you've installed or a gameplay script; it'd be a good idea to check for those as well.

• I took a look myself and the beatInterval gets set to 1 in fitChar() which is called on buildCharacter(). Based on my character's XML file not having an interval attribute, I know that the autoInterval for the fixChar() on my character will be true (since it's set to !hasInterval. However, it seems that beatInterval is only set to 1 if isDanceLeftDanceRight is set to true, which it isn't since my character has an idle animation instead.
• My performance is fine, I get consistent 140-200 FPS on most mods.

FunkinSprite automatically sets the beat interval to 2 ass you said previously; they should probably make DEFAULT_BEAT_INTERVAL a Flag.
Anyhow, since it's not a Flag for now, how would I go about this? Please lmk how to contact you.

I'm fine with a video being sent via a platform like Streamable. I have my Discord account's friends settings to only allow friends of friends and server members because of occasional random friend requests, so I'm not too sure about using Discord.

Hm; in that case, I would probably recommend checking beatInterval and beatOffset after the song has fully initialized, both of which provide some control over the idle animation in this case. Something like the following can do the trick:

In regards to beatOffset, a value of 0 should be okay for regular idle animations.
